Obituary of Agnes Marie Thompson
Agnes Marie Thompson (Meier)
Agnes Marie Thompson left us on August 31, 2023 at the age of 84 after a brief illness. She left this world peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Left to mourn her are: her four children, Darcy Thompson (Susan) of Collingwood (Ont.), Derek Thompson (Jenny English) of Saskatoon, David Thompson (Kazuko Ihara) of Tokyo and Debbie Mackenzie (Randy) of Saskatoon; her eight grandchildren, Jordon (Michaela), Ashton (Katie), Grey, Meredith, Drew (Tara), Zachary, Zayne and Haley; her siblings Alfred Meier and Lorraine Gamble; and many close friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Roy Thompson; her brothers Ray Meier, Leonard Meier and Morris Meier; her parents Frank and Mary Meier and niece Michelle Gamble.
Agnes, the second oldest of six children, was born December 27, 1938 at a farm outside of Salvador, Saskatchewan. The family eventually settled in Moose Jaw where, in 1956, she married airman Roy Thompson and the couple began a 25-year tour living in New Brunswick, Belgium, France, Germany, Nova Scotia and Ontario before returning to Agnes’s Saskatchewan roots where they lived in Swift Current, Regina and, for the last 40 years, in Saskatoon.
In all her family’s travels, with up to four children in tow, Agnes created 22 amazingly comfortable homes, navigating 14 villages, towns and military bases in 4 countries and 4 Canadian provinces. She also enjoyed working outside of the home in various occupations. Agnes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to many who will miss her smiling eyes, sense of humour and warm embrace.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Royal University Hospital for their care and compassion.
