We were all in good hands in our little town. When Dad told me of your Dad's passing and I acknowledged that he would miss him . my Dad said " he was a good old buddy" . I am sorry for your families loss. I hope it is a comfort to know we all share in your grief.
I remember being comforted by that humming as I awaited my appointments with him. Even when I broke my leg at age 5. That small signature sound brought so much healing.

Really sorry to hear about Art. Glad to have been at our last reunion to visit with him. When ever I saw him he always had a smile. I’ll remember our skiing trip to Jasper and Art using somewhat older equipment. He was bound to get in all the runs he could unfortunately resulting in a broken leg. We took him to the hospital and pulled on his leg while a cast was applied by a gynaecologist who felt he had the record for treating the most grizzly bear injuries, It was a harsh trip home but Art did not complain. We will miss him. Dan Johnson

My wife and I are very sad to hear of the sad news of Art’s passing. When I came back to Saskatoon from training from US, Grace and Art invited us to Central Butte for a weekend to enjoy rural life. It was evident how well known and respected they were as we stroll down the Mai street. We remember the “jug band” concert they took us to. During supper he was called to attend to a person with a heart attack, and I tagged along. I would not have been able to do what he did to help that person, as we big city guys are looking for a coronary care unit in order to function. Art taught me that we can function and help others even with limited resources.
If had forgotten about the Jasper Marmot ski trip till Brian reminded me of this. It was the last run of the day and Art insisted on getting his money’s worth. My recollection was that it was a spiral fracture and he had it casted in Jasper. We drove home the same night and of course the bones overlapped and Art had to have traction
We were glad to have the chance of seeing Grace and Art in Saskatoon last year. Art will be missed. Our sincere condolences to Grace and the entire family.

My nickname for Art was “Ike.” I don’t know if other class-mates called him by that name; but, for me it fit perfectly with his Viking personality & physical appearance. Art was my Mentor during medical school & internship despite our contemporary status. He was older & much wiser than me. We drove together to Edmonton during a spring med-school break in ?1969. I went on from Edmonton to Vancouver on a RCAF flight & Ike went skiing presumably in Jasper. After our return to Saskatoon we both found ourselves as in-patients at the RUH. I was ambulatory; but I clearly remember visiting Ike in his hospital bed where he lay adorned in a cast & external traction with a broken leg. I don’t remember the backstory to that event; but, I felt a tinge of guilt for delivering him to that fate. Although, I missed the 2021 MED71 50th graduation anniversary, I am so pleased to have wonderful pics of that very special celebration that include Art. Fair Winds & a Following Sea Ike. You will be missed. My sincere condolences to family & friends.

Thank you for the memories. That class of medical students was quite diverse, ranging in age & background from education, pharmacy, ministry, & physics degrees to successful business endeavours. Art was older than a lot of his classmates bc he was a teacher first. He really enjoyed returning to school and spending time with bright young minds.

Sorry to hear of Art’s passing. Please accept my most sincere condolences. He was one of my favorite teachers. He came and rescued our chemistry class at Kelvington High at Easter. I was in grade 11. I went on to get an A in chemistry in grade 12. He was an excellent teacher and certainly encouraged me to go to university. I really enjoyed his sense of sarcastic humour! We were both born in the Rose Valley Hospital and we lived in the same vicinity. I was French so you can imagine all the nicknames he had for me.

Thank you for the memories. Arthur was very fond of & had great respect for the Kelvington students. They were a hard working group of achievers! I remember Arthur receiving the call & then leaving for Kelvington right after he wrote his final university exams for that year.

Hello, my sincerest condolences for one of the great people I have met in my life.
The obituary describes all, except for the time he was taking me out to fish in the pontoon boat and drop the motor in the water.
I will remember him fondly. One of the best friends and doctors I have known.
Charlie Simpson.
