My deepest condolences to; Lucille's son, Daniel and his wife Lisa;to her life partner Garry; her sisters and their families;Sue, Hans and Pat.
A dark pall settled over me the day I saw Lucille exhale her last breath. Now that the reality of her passing has set in....I realize the impact it has already made to my life.
Our friendship lasted longer than most marriages- almost 40 years. During that span of time, we never had any confrontations and that I can attribute to Lucille's laid-back, accommodating temperament. We would though exchange harsh glares when playing competitive word games or cards. As amiable as Lucille was, when it came to playing games....she was a fierce opponent.
What will I miss about Lucille? Everything! I will miss our daily morning phone calls when we would often plan some activity for the day- be it, coffee time, lunch, shopping or antiquing. I will miss her kind heart.....she never had a harsh word to say about anyone. I will miss her optimism, "That's a good thing", she would say. I will miss her soft -spoken, gentle manner; her somewhat bohemian nature that was expressed through her art, poetry and in her fashion style. How could one not notice this classy 'Lady in Red' enter a room!
I would be remiss if I failed to mention the memorable, yearly vacations at the Fortier summer cottage at 'Kip'.We had enjoyable times there and Lucille & I couldn't wait until the kids (Daniel, Mimi & Jojo) 'hit the hay' so we could.... 'hit the bottle'. Such wonderful memories!
I recently came across a quote from a 19th century author by the name of Dinah Maria Mulock Craik who gave an interesting definition of FRIENDSHIP. She said '' Friendship is the comfort of feeling safe with a person, having to neither weigh thoughts or measure words'. I believe that best describes our relationship.
RIP my dear friend and shuffle those cards!
