I had the good fortune to have had Ron as both a track coach and mentor. As a coach, he prepared me to participate in both the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago and 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. He also was a mentor and role model for me as a man and father. My relationship with Ron and Betty Ann lasted over 60 years and we met each time I came to Saskatoon. They were both very special people in my life.

Ron was a great friend to my father, Dr Jim Russell. There was nothing my dad enjoyed more than going duck hunting with the boys and they certainly were there for him, wheelchair and all. He was a great friend to my dad and his regular visits with Betty and my mom and dad were always full of laughter and enjoyed by all. Knowing Brian and Dale for most of my life they are testaments to their parents parental skills and love of family. Lots of memories. bob russell

Sincere condolences on my behalf of my mother, brothers and me. I have told many people how fortunate I was to have grown up with a group of people who's parent's were very involved in our activities, and thus provided us with opportunities that others did not get .
I have many memories of the people and leaders at St. Timothy's 31st cubs, scouts, and venture groups. People we met from various schools, who went on to be good friends, despite the interschool rivalries that developed as we got older, Being between Dale and Brian in age, I benefited from the many years of involved that Mr. Perkins provided. As a high school teacher, Mr. Perkins had the same school "vacation" schedule that we did, and he was very generous to share that time with us. The things we learned in the meetings, as well as the summer and winter camps, particularly the numerous canoeing and portaging trips north of LaRonge. Many, many thanks for those opportunities, as well as the encouragement you provided to us as students at ABCI.

Our sincerest sympathies to Dale, Brian and families on the passing of Ron. There are so many of us that owe so much to your Dad and his incredible generous nature. The countless hours, days, weeks, months and years that Ron dedicated to the education, moral instruction, and civic duty that he impressed upon the youth in all the organizations that he was involved with, is a legacy that lives on.
I'll never forget the lessons I learned from Ron in cubs, scouts and venturers with St. Timothy's 31st troupes - the canoe trips, the Jamborees, the winter and summer camping excursions, building canoes, snowshoes and XC skis. Real life lessons. And then there were all the skills, sportsmanship, fair play and guidance he gave with football and track.
Years later, we became neighbours of Ron and Betty, and enjoyed their neighborhood visits and great gardening skills. We miss them both. God's blessings to you and your families.

To the family and friends of Ron Perkins, please accept my deepest condolences on his passing. For me as a young teacher, Ron was one of the role models I attempted to emulate as both a teacher and coach. He was firm and fair, created situations where students and athletes had the chance to grow under his watchful eye. He created opportunities where these same students and athletes had the chance to enjoy whatever activity they were engaged in, making it fun to learn and train. He had an innate ability to make a person feel welcome, no matter the circumstances when you first met him. I don't know how he did it but even if you met him once, he remembered your name. He was a leader of leaders whom he encouraged to become the best they could be in all aspects of life. He leaves us with many memories, may those memories be a comfort to all those who mourn his passing.
Brian, your dad leaves the world a better place because of what he did during his time with us. Please accept my deepest condolences. I was lucky to have known both you and your dad over the years. His was a life well lived and this is Saskatchewan, we don't say goodbye, we say we'll see you!! Take care and be safe.

My condolences to Ron’s family. He was a special guy and although I hadn’t seen him since my graduation in 1971, he’s a guy I’ve never forgotten. I learned a lot about firm but fair from Mr. Perkins. And without question, he was one of the bright spots in my years at Bowman.

We are very sorry to learn that Ron has passed. Strangely, I had been thinking about him just last week, although I hadn’t seen him for probably five years. Though Ron was just ten years older than I, I always thought of him as being still older, because he always seemed so wise and mature.
He was a great role model, and I appreciated him as thorough professional and gentlemanly coaching rival. A few years back, we used to see Ron and BettyAnne at the YM aqua fit program. Just a great couple,
Our thoughts are with you Dale and Brian. You will always miss him but can always appreciate his great contributions.

Rest in Peace Coach.
My condolences to the family of a wonderful person who's work ethic and sense of fairness and high moral standards have stayed with me all the days of my life.
My memory of him is still as bright as in the days I attended Aden Bowman from which I graduated in 1963.

To the Perkins family,
Just want you all to know that Coach Perkins had a special place in the hearts of my brother John and myself at Bowman. He was such a great coach and confidant. I always looked at him and thought he should be coaching professionally! At the end of the day all we have left is memories. So grateful I have such wonderful memories of Mr. Perkins. Thanks Coach! RIP

To Ron's family my condolences - Ron had a great life and I was fortunate to have had him in mine for a time.
I played for Coach Perkins at ABCI and was fortunate to be on that 1970 Provincial 4A Football Championship Team. I also participated in the track program and had him for PE. Ron was always fair, always had high expectations and always had a smile. Ron had a genuine love of teaching and coaching and it showed in his actions. That's not to say he couldn't or wouldn't call you out if you weren't performing up to ability and expectations.
In my experiences of high school there were very few people that could make you feel valued for who you were, and who gave you the chance to shine. Most of all - he spent the time after school hours coaching, encouraging and demanding our best.
To Ron's family thank you for allowing him that time to be part of our lives.
RIP Coach - you done good!

Ron Perkins was a prince of man--gentle, strong, fair and dedicated. I had the pleasure of being both a student of Ron's and a colleague, both at Bowman. Even fifty years later, he remembered my name when we ran into each other at aquafitness. He did so much for innumerable students, always pushing them to be better at any activity they chose, but always stressing fairness and integrity. Karen (Truscott) Howard
