Verne was my cousin and godfather but more than that he was my hero growing up. So many of my childhood rites of passage include him. He took me along when I was just a snot nosed kid 10 years younger than he was. He was like the big brother I never had. We lost touch in the last 20+ years as life and distance got in the way and now I regret that. He was an amazing guy. Very hard to describe to someone who didn’t know him but in the best way possible. I’ll miss him.

Verne was such a big part of our lives. He came to us as our son in law. We shared so many happy times together. We laughed at the good times and shared some tears at the hard times. It always amazed me that he could do just about anything. His love for his children was amazing there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. Even from a very young age, Mac was his companion to the many auction sales they attended. Buying and selling so many pieces of equipment. Fine-tuning Mac into the young man he is today. Once Maya and Keala started playing sports, Verne was their biggest supporter and fan. It didn't matter what they were involved in
Verne made sue they had the extra training available from a rink in the back yard for ringette to a batting cage for baseball. I will miss him.

Verne is a member of our Ringette Family that we had the pleasure to spend days, evenings, weekends and weeks with during the winter months for the last ten plus years. Verne had the gift of communicating with people of all ages; from little kids, to teenagers, parents and grandparents. He was full of team spirit and loved to watch his girls play the fastest game on ice. I will always remember being amazed to see Verne arrive at the rink in -40 degree Celsius temperatures wearing a t-shirt and vest!! He’s a master on the shot clock and an expert on the stats.
Verne, it’s a privilege getting to know you and the rink just won’t be the same without you. You will be missed.
Our deepest condolences to Verne’s family

Our deepest condolences Maya, Keala, Mac and Jacqui. Verne was the most sincere and caring person that we had ever met. He was a huge supporter of the girls and their teammates during the ringette season. The rink will not be the same without Verne. He always brought a smile to my kid with his encouraging words. Dean and him with their long chats about cars, man lifts and general mechanics. You could always get a story out of him. Verne will always be remembered for his vest and t-shirts at the rink during the coldest days. A great man taken too soon. You will be missed but not forgotten. RIP
Sincerely Dean, Bonita and Mackenzie Janzen

I am eternally grateful to have had Verne as a brother in law and friend. He was a brother to kelly and the most incredible uncle to Parker. We will forever miss our time with him. Our relationship was unique, filled with laughter, stories and a supportive love that was real and unwavering. Verne is irreplaceable as he was one of a kind! Now we will move forward with heavy hearts and memories of our time with him. Anyone who was lucky enough to have known Verne knows that the world was a better place with him in it. I consider myself blessed that I got to know Verne on a unique level and will miss the connection we had for eternity.

The world has lost a "Good Man". Verne was ring bearer in our wedding party. We will not forget that cow-lick in his hair, the crocked little grin and of course the laugh that was quiet and yet contagious.
Verne was every bit that was said in his obituary--dedicated to his children. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Much love and many prayers---Louise and Vince Reilly--Winnipeg

Just on look at our nephew's photo and his smile comes alive. He was such a bright light in our family
He spent a lot of time on the farm with his grandpa and grandma Paquette.. How they enjoyed their time with him as a child and later as an adult.
Living in British Columbia kept our visits less frequent then we would have liked. Truly our loss not to have spent more time with him and his beautiful family.
Verns death is such a terrible loss. A life taken too soon.
Loved and missed by
Aunty Denise and Uncle Jim
