I knew Laurie for many years. When he started his bbq business I helped him by manning his booth at the Home and Garden show. We became friends and got together for a a bbq steak at my home from time to time. When I moved to Calgary in 2002 I would visit Laurie at his shop when I returned to Saskatoon. About a year ago we went out for lunch together. I was shocked a couple of days ago when was in Saskatoon and called his business phone number. The man who answered told me that Laurie had passed away in January. Laurie was all about his kids and his customers. He always spoke proudly about his children and their achievements. He was also the personification of customer service. He was a workaholic and could never understand why others did not share his passion for giving 110% to his bbq and water softener customers. My condolences to his children. I will miss my visits with Laurie. He was a part of my life that will never be replaced.

Hi
I have just received a notification about Laurie's passing, and I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family. I first met Laurie years ago when I was working at Superior Propane Inc. in Saskatoon. He used to come in and buy parts, and I got to know to know him, and I loved his sense of humour and his dedication to his business. It is very sad to hear of his passing.
Thanks
Stan

I met Laurie in the fall of 2012, when he came to put in my water softener. He asked "did you buy it from me?" and I said "no" and he replied "then why should I install it for you"That evening, after 5 pm he showed up at the door, took out the old one, heavy and hardened with salt, and hooked up the new one.
Our relationship got off to a very slow start at first as his businesses took a lot of time and energy.
Laurie treated me with the upmost kindness, respect and gratitude. He bent over backwards, trying to have some fun times, and make me happy.; such as dance lessons, skating, sailing [his favorite]trips to Winnipeg and the Vancouver Island, White Table Cloth dining, steak BBQ's , another favorite.[on a Weber of course]
I could always count on him when in a pinch, like the time he came dashing over in the middle of his work day with a meat thermometer when my roast was burning. We had laughs over that.
Laurie's life was very chaotic.; he ran around busily his shop, serving customers, then off he'd go in the truck around the city, then out to the country. No problem was too great and he persisted till it was solved.
He built his business on good old fashioned hard work ,building up 2 successful businesses over the years, of which he was highly respected. He thrived on it all.
And so, it isn't any wonder that only a week before his death[while on chemo] that he worked 12 hours and made 9 service calls, defying the odds.
Unfortunately , his battle with cancer was one problem Laurie was unable to conquer.
I will always be grateful for the unconditional love that Laurie gave me and the kindness he showed to my children.
I miss you Laurie, love Marion

Condolences to Myril's family.
I grew up in Virden. As a youngster I was in the school band with Myril (I believe) and his sister Adele.
Beyond Virden days, Myril and I attended Notre Dame, Wilcox at same time. Later on our paths crossed a number of times over the years - last time at Virden Reunion in 2007(?).
Rest in peace old chum.

I was so sorry to read of Laurie's passing. I saw him just this summer and we had our usual chat about his business and plans to some day retire. Unfortunately that never came to pass. He had such a strong work ethic and taught his young employees responsibility and accountability which will stand them in good stead. He was a good supporter of mine when I ran for public office and we then became a client of his business. I will miss dropping by for our annual chat.
