Dear Pat and Family,
I am thinking of you and I hope these words bring some smiles and warm spirits to your broken hearts.
What can I say about a man who was my first boss when he appointed me the U of S aquatic director in 1981? A friend, a mentor, a colleague -- I learned much from John in my formative professional years.
And he was a great basketball referee critic. I remember one night reffing at City Park and there were 5 or 6 parents in the stand. At one point John hollered "Lendsay - I wish you would blow your whistle as good as you swim". I knew better than to deliver a "T" and the game continued.
I shall remember the Sunday mornings when the Dewar family would going swimming at the PAC.
I shall remember John's attention and support he provided me over the years and the kindness I came to know from the entire Dewar clan. Shiela and I are thinking of you.
Kelly & Shiela Lendsay

John Dewar was a good man. His vision and passion was an inspiration to me as one of his University of Calgary basketball players and later as a colleague at Laurentian University.

When I was a kid, John welcomed me to use the hoop in his backyard anytime I wanted. I didn't have easy access to a hoop myself, but loved to play. He would take time, when he could, to help me with my shot and chide me for my penchant for using "mini balls" instead of regulation-size balls. These small acts of pure kindness are the legacies that live on.

Many years ago, John was a coach of the Saskatchewan wheelchair basketball team and i benefited immensely from his leadership, knowledge of, and passion for the game. Before retiring, I used to work downtown and frequently chatted with John during his walks. He was always keenly interested in my activities and I loved to hear of his insights and interests. As you have noted, a live well lived. Thank you John

I’m so sorry to hear of Johns passing Pat and family. We still talk about John on 5th Ave. He was the best neighbor you could ever want. He was always interested in his neighbors, what was going on with your children and with you. We spent many hours on the street discussing the world both large and small. Rest easy John. We will continue to fondly remember you. Vicki
