I had the privilege of coming to know Dianne in the last months of her life. She would tell me stories from her past and I would marvel how much wisdom she had gleaned from a life shared with others as a teacher. She had the great gift of seeing things fairly, giving others their side of a story too - perhaps a gift given when you know your days are numbered. She seemed to be full of gratitude - for the watchful eye of her mother growing up, the memories of of her brother when they were young, the doctor who visited her almost daily in the hospital when she broke her leg as a young girl , the nun who were mean and taught her to strive even harder and the kind Sisters who believed in her academic abilities and patiently prepared her mentally for life and university. She spoke of the wonderful books and stories that inspired her, often from French authors, and the joy of sharing them with her students . Like the Little Prince himself she prized curiosity and like the wise fox, had great insights. Dianne spoke fondly of the great food, and fine wine she had enjoyed in life and longed for once again. She expressed her wish that friends would raise a pint of Guinness when she was gone aware that friendship is something to be savoured..Dianne was courageous and humble in her suffering and opened her soul to receive the spiritual love and care sent her way. A new friend who made an impression and will not be forgotten.
